The Democratic administration's economic messaging was disconnected from the reality of American voters, who were suffering from inflation and the high cost of living.

• "part of the story was um cost of living inflation were the number one issue uh we know that the candidate um strongest on the meting issue uh wins on average 85% of the time um and uh Donald Trump was strongest on that issue and so you know and and and and on that point there was really a disconnect in my opinion between the administration and the American people about how much they actually were suffering how difficult it was to make um ends meet um they were making the argument that the economy was actually doing well when people didn't really feel that and I say that because it's perfectly reasonable to go I'm going to vote for my Sen Senor again because I really like him or her but you know I'm going to throw the bums out because I can't make ends me and so I think a lot of that that rationale that sort of logic worked through all these races where individuals were very frustrated about cost of living they voted the bums out but they stayed with those politicians um that they you know that they knew um and voted for them"
