Privacy Policy
Stub for legal counsel review. This document is a plain-language draft published ahead of formal review. It will be replaced by a counsel-reviewed policy. If anything here conflicts with your jurisdiction's law, that law controls.
2024autopsy.com is operated by Pluribus AI ("Pluribus AI," "we," "us"). We publish data-editorial reports on contested political moments. We try to collect as little as possible to do that work, and we don't sell what we collect.
What we collect
When you unlock the full report, we ask for and store:
- Your first name and last name
- Your email address
- Your IP address (collected automatically by our hosting layer)
- Your browser user-agent string
- The timestamp of your submission
We don't collect government IDs, payment information, precise location, or any sensitive category of personal data. We don't ask for your political affiliation.
How we use it
-
To grant access to gated sections of the report (via a
pluribus_unlockcookie set after you submit). - To send you a confirmation email and, occasionally, a follow-up about this report or the next one. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email we send.
- To detect abuse of the unlock form (using IP and user-agent for basic rate limiting and fraud signals).
- In aggregate, to understand readership — which sections land, where people drop off, what the press is interested in.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies:
- Cookie consent state — remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we don't ask again on every visit.
- pluribus_unlock — set after you submit the unlock form, so gated pages stay open on subsequent visits.
- Google Analytics 4 cookies — set only if you accept analytics. GA4 helps us understand traffic patterns in aggregate. We do not share GA4 data with Google's advertising products.
You can decline analytics cookies and still use every part of the site. You can clear cookies in your browser at any time.
Data retention
- IP address and user-agent: retained for up to 90 days, then deleted or rotated out of our active dataset.
- Name and email: retained as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or request deletion, we remove your record within 30 days (we may keep a minimal suppression record so we don't accidentally email you again).
- Aggregated analytics: retained indefinitely in de-identified form.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct it if it's wrong
- Delete it
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a copy in a portable format
- Opt out of analytics or marketing email at any time, without affecting your access to public content
To exercise any of these, email privacy@pluribus.co. We'll respond within 30 days. We won't charge you and we won't retaliate against you for asking.
Third parties we rely on
We use a small set of vendors to run the site. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below:
- Vercel — hosting and edge delivery. Privacy policy
- Neon — managed Postgres database where lead records are stored. Privacy policy
- Google Analytics 4 — aggregate traffic analytics (cookie-consent gated). Privacy policy
- Email delivery provider — sends confirmation and follow-up email. Provider to be confirmed; the current candidate's policy will be linked here on launch.
We do not transfer your data to any other third party except where required by law.
Children
2024autopsy.com is intended for an adult, professional audience — journalists, researchers, and the general public interested in political analysis. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that threshold applies).
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify subscribers by email. The archived version of this page will remain available on request.
